Level 4 Iqa Registration Process

Are you an experienced assessor who feels stuck watching others land the higher-paying management roles?

It is incredibly frustrating to have the experience to spot mistakes and improve standards, but lack the “official” paperwork to step up as a Lead Verifier.

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (IQA) is the industry-standard, Ofqual-regulated qualification for professionals responsible for maintaining quality standards in training. Formerly known as V1 or D34, this course authorizes you to monitor assessors, manage procedures, and ensure compliance within colleges and private training centers.

At Advance Training Academy, we don’t just help you pass; we prepare you to manage. We turn competent assessors into confident Quality Assurance leaders.

What is the Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Course?

This is a management-level qualification. While the Level 3 CAVA is about assessing the student, the Level 4 IQA is about assessing the assessor.

If you want to work as an Internal Verifier (IV) or Quality Manager in a college, training provider, or apprenticeship scheme, this is mandatory. It proves you understand the regulations, legal requirements, and best practices to keep an institution compliant with awarding bodies like TQUK, City &Guilds, or Pearson.

Technical Snapshot:

  • Level: RQF Level 4
  • Credits: 12 Credits (for the Award)
  • Regulation:Ofqual Regulated
  • Prerequisite: You must already be a qualified Assessor (e.g., CAVA, A1, or D32/33).

Instructor’s Insight:
Confusion often arises between the “Award” and the “Certificate.”

  • The Award (Units 1 & 2): For practitioners who check the work of assessors. This is what 90% of people need.
  • The Certificate (Units 1, 2 & 3): For “Lead IQAs” who manage a team of other IQAs.
Check with us if you aren’t sure which one fits your job role.

Core Components & Curriculum

The IQA isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about people management and maintaining standards. The course is split into theoretical understanding and practical application.

Unit TitleWhat You Will MasterAssessment Method
1. Understanding Principles & PracticesThe theory behind internal quality assurance, legal mandates, and how to plan IQA activities.Written Assignment
2. Internally Assure the Quality of AssessmentThe practical side. You will monitor assessors, sample their work, and give feedback.Portfolio & Observation
3. Leading Quality Assurance (Optional)Only for the Certificate: Managing a team of IQAs and handling EQA (External Quality Assurance) visits.Portfolio & Professional Discussion

Pro Tip:
For Unit 2, you need access to two assessors, each with their own two candidates. You are checking their marking. Start lining up these colleagues as soon as you enroll.

Who Is This Course For?

This is a step up the ladder. It is designed for professionals who are ready to take responsibility for the reputation of their training center. It is ideal for:

  • Experienced Assessors: You have your CAVA/A1 and want to stop driving site-to-site and move into a management role.
  • Training Managers: You run a department and need to ensure your staff are marking fairly and consistently.
  • Freelance Verifiers: IQAs often command higher day rates than assessors. This certificate opens that door.
  • Business Owners: If you own a training academy, you need this to sign off on your own company’s claims for certification.

The “Hidden” Obstacles (And How We Fix Them)

Moving from “Assessor” to “Verifier” can feel intimidating. Let’s address the two biggest fears.

1. “I don’t want to be the ‘bad guy’.”
Many people worry that being an IQA means policing their colleagues and finding faults.

  • The Reality: IQA is about support, not policing. Our course teaches you how to give constructive feedback that helps your assessors improve, rather than just criticizing them. You become a mentor, not a warden.

2. “The paperwork will bury me.”
Quality Assurance involves audit trails.

  • The Reality: We provide streamlined templates for sampling plans, standardization meeting minutes, and feedback logs. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. We show you exactly what the awarding bodies want to see, so you don’t over-document unnecessary things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a qualified assessor first?
Yes. You cannot check the quality of assessment if you don’t hold an assessment qualification (CAVA, A1, or D32/33) yourself.

Does this replace the V1 award?
Yes. The V1 is the “legacy” qualification. While V1 is still valid if you have it, the Level 4 IQA is the current modern standard required by new employers.

Can I do this course online?
Unit 1 (Theory) is entirely online. Unit 2 requires you to monitor assessors in a workplace. You can upload the documentary evidence of this to our portal from anywhere.

How long does it take?
It is self-paced. Most working professionals complete the Award in 2 to 4 months.

What is the difference between IQA and EQA?
IQA (Internal) is what you do inside your center. EQA (External) is done by the awarding body (like City & Guilds or TQUK) to check on you. This course qualifies you for the Internal role.
